The modern creative practice involves various digital methods to provide creators total control. But sometimes, it is the random exploration that brings liveliness to a creation. Instead of solid buttons and knobs, CHERYSTAL let you create with body movement and expression.
The Build.

CHERYSTAL is a MIDI & OSC controller based on a build of 9 HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensors and 3 potentiometers, simple yet efficient. The unit runs with Arduino and CHUCK, making it flexible in performing data mapping.
Application.

There are many ways you can create with CHERYSTAL. The example below demonstrate an application of using MIDI protocol to control VSTs and parameters in DAWs. Meanwhile, you can also control visual effects in VJ software with the OSC protocol.

CHRYSTAL presented as an installation in CALARTS EXPO 2018 and Los Angeles Frogtown Artwalk 2019. It had caught the attention of Companies such as Ableton and Derivative. The user experience gained positive comments, and the project successfully attracted visual artists and musicians who were expertise in different genres.
